about

An Dotair Leòdach ‘s Biodag Air (Trad/ Pàdruig Morrison)/The Devil’s Gramophone (Charlie Stewart)
Charlie Stewart: fiddle and double bass; Pàdruig Morrison: accordion; Mike Vass: guitar

The Devil's Gramophone is inspired by a humorous story told by Mary Campbell of Barra about an old man who lived on Mingulay. He was asked to attend a dance, but when he heard that the music was to be played on a gramophone – he’d never heard of one of those – he was horrified. He refused to go, since a machine that could talk for itself was clearly the work of the Devil. (SA1960/098)
