about

Gura Mis’ Tha Fo Mhìghean (Trad)/St Kilda Cliffs/The Mirror Monkey/The Corn Devil/The Daliburgh Reel (Iain MacLachlan). All, unless otherwise stated comp and arr Pàdruig Morrison.
Pàdruig Morrison: accordion and piano; Robbie Greig: fiddle and guitar; Charlie Stewart: double bass and fiddle; Elinor Evans: clarsach

The first two tunes are about tragedies on St Kilda (tapes SA1976/176 and SA1955/48). The Mirror Monkey, told by John MacDonald of Spean Bridge, is about a St Kildan man who visits Glasgow and sees a mirror for the first time. Looking in the mirror, he exclaims 'there’s a monkey inside it!' He takes it home to show his wife, who only sees a woman there and thinks she is what attracts him to Glasgow! (SA1952/123)
