about

By Kirsty Law
Kirsty Law: vocals; Pàdruig Morrison: piano and accordion; Charlie Stewart: double bass

Kirsty wrote this song in response to proposed funding cuts threatening coastguards around the UK. To address this issue, she uses a tale from the archives told by Shetland fiddler Tom Anderson, whose ancestors were fishermen in those islands. He describes a boat that becomes submerged in rough weather, only to sail underwater, the sail pulling them up to the surface again. (SA1972/238)
